My Second Home

A Better Model for Senior Day Programs

My Second Home - Our Focus Project

As the number and the age of Canadian seniors increases so does our need for additional community services.

Canadians are living longer and remain active longer. Tragically, thousands of seniors become socially isolated, at risk of poor mental and physical health.

Most adult day centres take place in institutions with larger groups of adults, doing activities scheduled for them. This runs counter to what makes them comfortable and part of a community.

Is it not better for such services to be offered in the setting of a home?

My Second Home eases the burdens of family caregivers

They know that their loved ones are coming to a home during the daytime where they are supported in a safe, respectful and life-affirming way.

They now have the peace of mind they need to attend to other vital    areas of their lives.

Support My Second Home

My Second Home, where seniors are part of each other’s lives - where families know their loved ones are safe and enjoying life.

Imagine walking into a home - not an institution but a home- where the air is filled with the smell of freshly baked bread, music is playing softly in the background.

Seven to eight other members are gathered, a couple is enjoying tea and a snack at a table, three are engaged in a board game. Another is out in the garden; another is in the kitchen making cookies with the staff.

Quietly and with dignity their needs are met, medicine, podiatry and health monitoring.

Be part of solving loneliness and isolation
